Duration of Additional Precautions:
Until 2 weeks of effective antibiotic therapy, improving clinically and has 3 consecutive negative sputum smears collected at least 24 hours apart
Multi drug-resistant tuberculosis: until cultures

Signs & Symptoms:
Weight loss, fever, night sweats, pulmonary pain, cough, bloody expectoration, lesion on diagnostic imaging
Comments:
  • +For extra-pulmonary meningitis, bone, joint infection, draining lesions, and PPD (purified protein derivative) reactive test with no evidence of current pulmonary disease, use Routine Practices
  • Avoid unnecessary procedures that may generate aerosols
  • Notify infection control
