Acute Care ARO Prevalence Study

The first ever ARO Prevalence Study was conducted country wide in November 2010. An interesting finding: Researchers reviewed the data to determine if any facility or IPAC program characteristics affected the prevalence rates of MRSA, VRE, or CDI. Prevalence rates did NOT vary by hospital size, annual # of admissions, teaching versus non-teaching status, #ICPs/100 beds, or the presence of a hospital epidemiology.

July 2009

One of the highlights of the 2009 APIC Conference held recently in Fort Lauderdale featured our American counterparts discussing their Risk Assessment process for IPAC programs.  While the U.S. Joint Commission requires annual completion of a risk assessment tool, the idea also has merit here in the Great While North!  You can download a "SWOICNized" version of this resource - our team would be happy to provide tips on how to use it in your setting.  You can reach us at 866-916-1127.
PPE Video Poster:  SWOICN submitted a successful poster abstract to the APIC Conference and was proud to showcase The Grand Prix of PPE.  You can view a copy of the poster here.

SWOICN stakeholders were also well represented by Jo-anne McConnell and Betty Gregg of Grey Bruce Health Services. They gave an oral presentation, entitled An Outbreak of CA-MRSA 10 involving newborns and parents associated with a colonized healthcare worker. The presentation slides are available here.
3M Solumed Oral Presentation Award - Conference attendees cast ballots for the best oral and best poster presentation.  If you have  never considered submitting an abstract to the CHICA Conference, take some time over the next year to think about initiatives or successess at your organization that might be of benefit to others in the field.  Staff at SWOICN would be happy to assist or partner with you to bring your ideas to the Conference.  Who knows, you might just walk away with a monetary award.
