Flu Season
Influenza continues to be a major cause of preventable morbidity and mortality in Ontario. It is estimated that annually, influenza and influenza related complications account for 60,000 hospitalizations and 8,000 deaths, most of which occur among the elderly. Ontario is the only province offering universal, annual flu immunization free of charge. 8 staff immunizations in a LTC home can prevent one death (Hayward 2006).

One of the objectives of the Peel Community Infection Prevention and Control Committee is to establish collaborative communication links between multidisciplinary health services. The group identified that there was a gap in the communication of Antibiotic Resistant Organisms (AROs) and Clostridium difficile from one service to the next. In an effort to bridge the existing gap the committee developed the ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANT ORGANISM (ARO)/Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) COMMUNICATION FORM. The form is an editable pdf version that can be printed out and sent with the client/patient/resident on transfer to provide clear communication of the client/patient/resident ARO/C.difficile status.
